How to Find Common Core Math Practice Questions

posted by Karen Quinn, The Testing Mom - March 19th, 2015

Common Core math practice questions have received a lot of attention over the past few years as parents across the country have posted what look like impossibly complicated math problems that are supposedly a result of the newly-implemented Common Core State Standards. These math questions often involve complicated ways of getting to what seems, at least to an adult, as a relatively simple and straightforward answer, and parents are worried that the school system is overcomplicating what should be a pretty straightforward process.

The good news is that, no matter how complicated Common Core math practice questions seem at first glance, as a parent you are ultimately in control of how your child performs on the Common Core test just as you are in deciding the kind of math grades they get in school. The key is preparation that gets them ready for both the test and for the math they face in school.

In looking for Common Core math practice questions, the first and best place to start is the homework that your child brings home from school. Chances are that, if you’re in a state that administers the Common Core test, your child’s teacher has designed their curriculum so that Common Core math practice questions are baked into the schoolwork and homework that your child faces on a daily basis. It’s a good idea to check in with your child’s teacher to see if there is anything you should be aware of when going over math materials with your child, or if there are any supplemental materials they recommend.

Of course, it’s never a good idea to rely solely on the homework that your child brings home to get them ready for tests that could determine their educational future. For that reason, it’s a good idea to find supplemental Common Core math practice questions online that will ensure your child is ready for one of the most important tests of their life.
