Advanced Minecraft - Learn to mod! (4th-10th Grade)

Modding in Minecraft is one of the best ways for children to learn computer science. Modding in Minecraft allows students to use their imaginations to create custom, unique mods. By modifying (modding) in Minecraft, children create powerful objects and special powers that do not normally exist in the game. They learn to code their own mods from the ground up, all while learning Java (a widely-used programming language.)

Learn to add your own items and enemies, create your own recipes, and manipulate the world you play in. Students will be using software to help design these new techniques in order to build their imaginary world. Note: This is an Advanced class for students who have completed the "Intro./ Beginner Minecraft" class and/ or have taken and completed the "Intermediate Minecraft" class. 

Minecraft is a game-based learning platform that promotes creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving. Years back it was crazy to think that programming, or even video games like Minecraft, could be used to teach fundamental skills. But today those who do not learn game coding techniques in their homes or schools are left behind.

Preparation Prior to Class:

There is a one-time purchase required for Minecraft Java Edition for $26.95. Please Download and Install Minecraft Java Edition here: https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/store/minecraft-java-edition. You will need a Microsoft account to buy and play Minecraft Java Edition. If you don’t already have one you can create one for free. Go to account.microsoft.com, select Sign in, and then choose to create one. 

* We will also be using MCreator- Minecraft Modding Software; below is a tutorial for installation/download.

* Please make sure that you have a mouse for this class! It will make it easier to work in Minecraft.

* Compatible with MAC, and Windows PCs and Laptops.
