Description

A super fun, high-energy program where young chess players learn and practice chess piece names, movement, and capture. Carlos incorporates singing, dancing, fun chess stories, and movement to motivate and inspire your child. Your child will learn the two most common basic checkmate patterns. Your child will also be introduced to the three phases of the game: opening strategy, middle game (tactics & positional advantage), and endgame strategy.

This is a high-energy chess class that involves singing, chanting, and movement. During his 20+ years of teaching chess, Carlos has found this technique to be the most effective method for children to learn chess.

1. Please open a free account at lichess.org with the following format applied to the username {First name (first letter of the last name)test5} for example "John Smith" would be JohnStest5. Please select a regular account (not a child account) because only the regular account is able to receive messages such as links that I will be provided throughout the training.

2. It is recommended students use two devices. One device such as a desktop or laptop to do the zoom video part while another device such as an iPad, smartphone, or android tablet will be used to log on to lichess.org to actually play chess and make moves and play online.

Instructor's Bio:

My name is Carlos, and I have been teaching chess full time for the last 20 years. I have taught chess to more than 10,000 students. Many of my students train and participate in state and national chess championships. Some of my students have finished first place in their states and in the nation. My teaching methodology caters to all learning styles covering the full range of neuro-diversity. My classes are super fun and high energy, and incorporate singing, dancing and chanting. Along with chess, I love making music.

Welcome to all those who love playing chess and all those who want to learn. We will be training with fun practice chess tournaments, interactive chess puzzles, and chess movies! I look forward to playing with all of you!
