How do I know my child is ready for overnight camp?

Camp readiness is a combination of a child’s maturity, independence, outgrowing day camp; as well as peer and parent discussions. Oftentimes children want to do more activities when they come home from day camp; which means parents need to entertain them in the evening when they themselves are tired from their long day. They also are successful at sleepovers, be it friends and/or relatives. And they are seeking more instruction in particular areas of interest. If one or both parents had sleepaway camp experiences, they reminisce and bring up the topic at an age appropriate time; so that their own children yearn for a similar experience.
