Children in the third grade will be administered the OLSAT test Level D. This test evaluates the development of a child’s nonverbal and verbal cognitive abilities, which is different than most tests, since it doesn’t test what was directly learned in school. This test instead focuses on measuring students’ ability to comprehend and reason using information; it is used to identify gifted children and to identify cognitive areas where students need help.
If you are considering sending your child to a private school, a gifted school or an advanced placement institution, the OLSAT Level D may be a critical factor in his admission. It’s also important to remember that many school districts modify the test or may combine it with another test to form a custom exam that is used to determine admissions to their programs. Usually the student is expected to complete the test within 50 to 60 minutes, with questions getting harder as the test goes on.
