Need Help?
We've got answers
The key difference is that workbooks and flashcards are for one grade level and the Testingmom.com website is a one-stop shop destination where you get everything you need in one place in order to prepare your child for an upcoming test. Through the years, we have learned that children, especially young children, need a variety of tools to prepare for tests. They can work with interactive practice questions for a while, then play some test prep games, then use their test prep flashcards or a workbook. By using a variety of tools, your child will spend more time preparing without getting bored or losing focus.
With a TestingMom.com membership, you get thousands of practice questions at your child’s level, plus questions at easier and harder levels. We always recommend starting with easier level questions to give your child the confidence that they can do this, then doing their own grade level and then doing the next grade level up if they can answer the questions without frustration. At Testingmom.com, you get both printable and interactive questions, games to build underlying skills for testing, and online on-demand classes to teach you and your child the skills needed to handle different types of questions that will be asked. In addition, we offer workbooks and flashcards through Amazon.com to prepare students for upcoming tests and to work on skills needed for testing.
Testingmom.com flash cards and workbooks are available at Amazon.com.

• More Questions. Over 100,000 practice questions for the most-given including cognitive, group intelligence and state achievement tests. Plus, when you join Testingmom.com, you'll get practice questions at every level of difficulty so your child can work with easier or harder material, depending on their abilities.
• Comprehensive Coverage. Questions are modeled after each of the different types of questions on tests and we give you comprehensive coverage of each type of question and all skills assessed. For example, while you might fine random examples of Nonverbal Figure Classification practice questions for a test like the CogAT on the internet, at Testingmom.com, your child will practice sample questions from the 10+ different ways this type of question is presented on the test.
• Unique Games. We offer a variety of fun, interactive games that you won’t find anywhere else online that are designed to help your child learn the underlying skills needed for success on various tests.
• Valuable Premium Education Programs. Our premium skill-building programs are designed to keep your child learning long after the test is over. These partner programs from some of the biggest names in education (like Scholastic, World Book, Britannica and more!) cover subjects including reading, math, English language arts, science, social studies, introductory coding, chess, keyboarding, and more. Purchasing individual memberships to these programs would cost you well over $500 per year, but our Skill Building Academy gives you access to 30+ programs included with your membership.
• Online Expert Advice. We provide guidance from our Student Success Team on how to use our materials to give your child the best possible chance to achieve the outcome you desire. You can also set up a consult with Karen Quinn, the Testing Mom, for individual advice based on your child's specific circumstances.
• A Test Prep System. You have access to a 5-step system – the S.C.O.R.E.™ System – that you can follow to give your child the best possible chance to earn a top score.
Since every testing situation is different, we cannot guarantee that using our practice materials will produce the desired test results for your child. We offer materials that parents can use to help a child prepare for specific tests or assessments; however, you, the parent, are responsible for practicing with your child in ways that will maximize your child’s chances of success. The more time you have to prepare, the better your child's chances to succeed. But even if you have a short time to get ready, anything you do to familiarize your child with what to expect and how to approach each type of question will help their performance.
If you need support working with your child, we have tutors available with years of experience preparing students for every test your child may need to take. Our tutors are accomplished teachers skilled at personalizing their teaching strategies to suit your child's unique learning style. Call us at 877-609-6203 for information and prices. CLICK HERE to learn more.
Many parents feel very comfortable preparing their children with our materials and tools. Since 2010, students with yearly memberships who followed our 5-step TestingMom.com S.C.O.R.E. System™ saw the highest overall test score improvements. In our program, you will have access to training for the S.C.O.R.E System, which you can follow to help your child perform at his or her best.

No. Questions on many tests do not change from year to year. You would never want to expose your child to questions from an actual test that your child may take in the future. Besides, those questions are protected by copyrights so we would never use them. We do offer questions that are modeled after the types of questions that are on different tests, but these are all original questions designed to give your child familiarity with what to expect on test day.
Over time, we asked parents whose kids scored in the 97-99th percentiles on their gifted tests what they did to help their child do so well. Most parents whose children did extremely well naturally approached their preparataions by doing the same things. We organized what these parents told us they had done to prepare their children so well into a system that everyone could follow. We called the steps these parents took the S.C.O.R.E. system.
Here are the steps of the S.C.O.R.E. system. As a member, you will get training on how to use this system to your child’s best advantage.
S – Start with the application and test requirements.
C – Challenge your child through practice.
O – Overcome common test taking mistakes.
R – Reinforce underlying concepts.
E – Emphasize listening, focus and perseverance.

At TestingMom.com, none of our practice questions are the same as any actual questions on the tests, so you are never exposing your child to actual test questions when you work with our materials. Our practice questions, while modeled after those on various tests, are always original. They are designed to teach kids the concepts and underlying skills they will need when tested. Even when they are similar to the format of test questions (such as matrix or analogy questions), the question content is always original. The various activities we offer are similar to what you might find in educational workbooks that you would buy at your local bookstore to help your child prepare for these questions. The difference is, we have tied the similar types of questions with specific tests so that you can do the kind of work necessary to support test readiness and underlying skills in one convenient place.
It is important to note that psychologists generally do not support test prep. So, when you work with your child, never talk with your child about preparing for a test. Use the same wording as you’d use if you were doing other educational activities together – talk about doing puzzles and games and worksheets for school. Call your work together “brain games” or “special homework” or “brain quest.” Mix up our materials with offline games and activities that support building the same kinds of thinking and reasoning skills. If your child will be taking an IQ or intelligence test, take a look at our store under Stanford-Binet®, WISC® or WPPSI™. Here, we give you links to games and workbooks you can buy on Amazon to build cognitive skills needed for any intelligence tests. Use these games and material alongside ours to help prepare your child. Between these and the educational games you are already doing with your child, the learning he is getting at school, and the brain building activities and online games we have at our site, you are just doing what any conscientious parent would do who wants to raise a bright and capable child.
We hate when schools discourage parents from preparing for tests that will admit their kids to gifted programs. When it comes time for schools to give state achievement tests, they spend weeks preparing their students so the school can get a good rating. How can you discourage parents from doing educational enrichment with their own kids? They should be encouraging them!
TestingMom.com features practice questions for the tests most commonly given to students from pre-K through 8th grade. That said, we do have offer practice for older students as well, depending on the test they are taking. Our Skill Building Academy offers practice for state tests through high school, and for the ACT and SAT. Our tutors work with students through 12th grade. If you have an older child and you aren't sure if we have test prep materials on our site that can help them, give us a call at 877-609-6203 and we can guide you.
At Testingmom.com, we offer other tools besides our thousands and thousands of practice questions for test prep. As a member of our program, you’ll have access to:
- Over 30 partner educational programs curated especially for kids that are accessible through our Skill Building Academy. These premium programs are from top providers such as Scholastic, Brain Pop, Dreambox, Study Island, Moby Max, Reading Kingdom, Scholastics and more. Email your questions to us at help@testingmom.com and be sure to include a phone number and good time to call you back when it’s convenient. For most questions, we’ll respond via email within one business day; if we need additional information or if you have several questions and prefer to speak with one of our testing experts about your child’s unique situation, we’ll call you at the preferred time and phone number you give us so we can answer all of your questions.
If you have extensive questions or a particularly challenging situation you need advice for, you can set up a private consultation with the Testing Mom, Karen Quinn, our co-founder. These consultations are half-price for members of TestingMom.com.
Just give us a call at 877-609-6203. If you know the test your school will be giving, we will let you know if we have practice materials to prep for it. Or, you can email us at help@testingmom.com with your child’s age, current grade, school district or private school you are applying to and we will guide you.
Even if you aren’t sure which test your child will be taking, one of our Student Success Team members can help you identify the test for your school district or private school application. In many cases, schools do not disclose the name of the test they will administer, but they will describe them in enough detail that we can guide you in preparing. In other cases, we have learned and can guide you as to which tests school districts administer even when they don’t announce the name.
If your child is taking a test that we don’t currently have listed on our site, send an email to help@testingmom.com letting us know your child’s age, current grade, which state you live in and the name of the test that will be administered. There are hundreds of tests that schools may choose for assessing children, and there’s also a lot of overlapping material and/or similarities between many of the questions on these tests. If we don’t have practice questions for the specific test your child will be taking, we can tell you which ones we do offer that can help your child get ready for the test that cover very similar (if not identical) materials. If we don’t have the right practice questions to help your child prepare, we’ll tell you that as well.
Ideally, you should start practicing 6 months to a year before your child will be taking the test. By using our practice questions, many parents discover their child’s unique weaknesses and strengths in a particular area and can work on building up any skills that need improvement. Some kids struggle with math questions, others with reading or visual-spatial reasoning. Some children don't listen to the question and ask for it to be repeated (and proctors usually aren’t allowed to repeat them during a testing session). By starting your test preparation routine well in advance, you’ll have plenty of time to work on building any underlying ability needed for testing that’s giving your child trouble.
Our Parent Resource Center is full of ideas, tips and expert resources to help focus your test prep based on your child’s particular needs, and we strongly urge you to listen to the recordings and download the worksheets found in our Parent Resources section. This will teach you the S.C.O.R.E. System, which, if you follow it, will give your child the best chance to succeed on the upcoming test. Our Parents' Prep Tips give you specific ideas of creative ways other parents have worked with their own kids to achieve qualifying scores on gifted tests. If you're applying to private schools, don't miss our Admissions Prep Kit for guidance on interviews and admissions essays. Be sure to check out our Test Taking Skills guidance for the most common mistakes students make when taking tests and how to prevent these! Finally, if you have a very shy child who will be taking their first test with a psychologist or tester, listen to our Shy Kids interview with shyness expert, Dr. Roberto Carducci, who will tell you how to help your child open up to a "stranger" who is testing them.

If you have just a week or two to get prepared before the test is scheduled, you can still get an idea of what kinds of questions will be asked so your child will know what to expect on test day. Work with your child up to an hour per day, but no more. Try to make it a bonding experience that makes practice time feel special and schedule it for a time when your child is able to focus without any distractions, like on the commute home from school, during breakfast, or even while your child is taking a bath. These are all suggestions from parents who’ve told us what worked for their child, so now, we’re passing ideas on to you!
It’s always helpful for your child to be more familiar with the types of questions that will appear a particular test. We recommend you sign up for a TestingMom.com the lowest term membership and practice 10-15 minutes daily using the test practice questions found on our site. Make sure to cancel your membership once the test is over by following the steps outlined on this page.
- Go to the Testing Mom homepage,
- Click the "My Account" the top and then click on "My Membership"
- Follow the prompts to cancel.
- Once you cancel your account, you will no longer be billed.
- You will continue to have access to TestingMom.com through the period of your paid membership.

We recommend you start practicing at least 6 months before your child is tested by working for a few minutes each day (10-15 should be enough, but you can work up to 30 minutes – no more than an hour of practice a day is recommended). If you’re short on time and not sure if you can get through all the material, we suggest focusing on the types of questions or skills your child’s having the most difficulty mastering. If your child seems to fully understand one concept, there’s no need to continue practicing with every question for it; instead, move on to the next type of question and really focus on any subjects or types of questions that seem to be more challenging. You’re always welcome to email help@testingmom.com if you need additional guidance in where to focus your test prep energy given the limited time you have to prepare.

Yes, we do offer one-to-one online tutoring services!
How does it work?
We offer our tutoring sessions 7 days a week. Your child logs in to our online video conferencing system via a laptop or tablet (iPad) at the scheduled time to meet with the tutor. The tutor can see and speak with your child while sharing screens for optimal interaction. During each session, we help your child develop pacing and time management techniques. As your child learns the material, the tutor teaches effective strategies to finish the test on time and accurately. At the end of each session, you’ll receive an email with a summary report of the session and “prep and practice” homework to work on before the next session.
We have good news! Our new scheduling system is now live! Parents can log in to their online tutoring account to view and manage their upcoming sessions.
Is there a trial session?
Yes, we can help you purchase a single session for your trial as well as discuss our online tutoring packages, scheduling, and pricing. Please click here to schedule a time to speak to us about the program.
How much is per session?
For Gifted and Talented Test prep or Academics Online Tutoring, please go to https://www.testingmom.com/
For High School Online Tutoring, please go to https://www.testingmom.com/
You can also CLICK HERE to schedule a time with us if you need help choosing the package that best suits your needs.
Is it a one-hour per session?
If the package you purchased comes with a Diagnostic Assessment, this will be the first session and will last 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the student's grade. Subsequent sessions will last approximately 30 minutes.
What is a Diagnostic Assessment?
The tutor gives a complete diagnostic of your child's strengths and weaknesses. This simulates how your child would perform if the test were given that day. This also allows us to evaluate your child’s test-taking skills for focus, listening, paying attention, and following directions. The diagnostic helps us build a customized roadmap for future sessions. After we complete the diagnostic, we’ll send you a detailed report of your child’s performance. This report, along with future reports, will be sent from the tutor within 36 hours of the session.
Will it be teachers or college students teaching my child?
We have tutors who are former schoolteachers, and all have college degrees. Seasoned tutors in preparing for gifted and talented testing are teaching your child. They have extensive experience working with young children to help with their cognitive skills development. Each tutor has been trained and certified by Karen Quinn, the Testing Mom. Many of our tutors have administered gifted tests across the country.
Can you guarantee my child will pass her tests if I use your online tutoring services?
We do not guarantee that using the TestingMom.com website or Online Tutoring Services will lead to a qualifying test score or acceptance into any particular program or school. There are many factors outside of our control that may impact a young child’s performance on test day. However, we do guarantee that we will make every effort to work with you and your child to build the skills your child will need to perform at his or her best on the upcoming test.
Can we cancel and get a refund if we do not like it?
Should you choose to cancel a prepaid tutoring package at any time, your remaining sessions will be available for use within a 12-month period after the date of cancellation.

For younger children, you should start by practicing about 10 minutes a day and gradually build up to 30 minutes. When your child is closer to the testing date, you want to be sure he or she can focus on doing practice test questions (or another educational activity) for up to an hour without stopping, because that’s the typical length of most tests. For older children (students in third grade and above), you can do practice questions together for up to half an hour each day.
If you find out at the last minute that your child is going to be tested in a short period of time, it will still help your child's performance to get practice in before the test. If this happens, try to go through each type of question your child will see on the test they will be taking. That way, they will know what to expect, how to approach each question and will feel more confident going into the test. If you have questions about how to prepare for an upcoming test, call us at 877-609-6203. Our Student Success Team has years of experience guiding parents facing this exact situation. They'll show you where the questions and tools are that you need, and will advise you on how much practice to do each day depending on when your child will be assessed.
Mixing up the tools you use with your child will help them practice for longer periods. So we recommend using a combination of printed questions, interactive questions, online and offline games to keep your child most engaged. All of these methods of practice are available to you on the TestingMom.com website.
We recommend that you start by working with questions that are below your child’s grade level. This gives him or her confidence, plus many harder questions build on concepts mastered sequentially through easier ones. Then, work with questions at your child’s grade level. After that, work with questions one year beyond your child’s grade/age level if he or she can do them without frustration. Many gifted tests do ask questions beyond a child’s grade level so it is important that your child be able to handle some harder questions in order to qualify, depending on the program. For students taking a test that has non-verbal test such as the NNAT, CogAT or OLSAT and other cognitive or IQ tests, we recommend starting with the very easiest non-verbal questions because these questions definitely build on concepts mastered through easier ones. You will be delighted to see how easy the hardest non-verbal puzzles become for students who start with step-1 and work their way up to step-5 by practicing non-verbal questions at each level of difficulty.
Yes, questions are available immediately. You will be prompted to create your child’s individualized program as soon as you join. That will make it easier for you to access the practice questions you want the moment you log in.
After you join, we recommend that you click the link to our Parent Resource Center on the left side menu and watch our Site Orientation video. This video will show you how to find any practice questions, test prep games or whatever else you want to access on our site. If you have any question or if you just want a Student Success Team member to walk you through where to find whatever you need, call us at 877-609-6203. We will help you get started! One advantage to joining Testing Mom vs. any other test prep provider is that we encourage you to call us anytime you have a question or need help!

Yes, all our practice questions are printable! If you want to save paper, you can also open each set of questions online and then have your child point to the answer choices shown on your computer or tablet’s screen as you go through the questions together. Ask your child why they chose the answer they picked. By going through many of the questions with your child, you can validate that they are correct in their reasoning.
We suggest doing some practice questions online together, as well as printing some out, so your child can get used to answering them using the traditional pencil and paper method. Mixing up the tools keeps it interesting for your child, so don’t forget that all TestingMom.com memberships include access to a variety of online games that let your child practice in a way that’s both fun and interactive.
