Class Details:
This is a step above the beginner class for students with some knowledge of Hindi. Each class is designed so kids will learn the basics of reading, writing, and speaking Hindi while having fun! We will start to read short stories with 2-4 letter words without Matras, and we’ll learn to recognize, write, and memorize Matras and learn how Matras change the sound of any letter. We will learn to count and write from 50-100 in Hindi, and students will learn Hindi through games, stories, and popular Hindi songs.
We will study Indian culture and trivia and speak and understand Hindi words and phrases every day. The goal of each session is to inspire your child to love Hindi and NOT feel like their lessons are BORING!!! Start talking Hindi with your child or grandchild. Give your child an appreciation of their heritage, culture, and family language of origin. Prepare your child to speak with relatives when they visit or Zoom with Family back in India.
Note: At the end of 4 weeks, your child can continue their learning with this ongoing class.
Important Note: Our system will send you the link to join the class 30 minutes before the start time of the class.
Unfortunately, this class does not allow drop-ins. Each class builds upon prior courses.
My name is Veena Mathur. I immigrated to the United States in the 1970s when I was twenty years old. I hold two Master’s degrees, one in Microbiology and the other in Pharmaceutical Sciences. My two American-born children are physicians and both can read, write and speak in Hindi fluently.
I love teaching Hindi to small children and young adults. To help develop their liking towards the language, I use several methods. Teaching by using pictures and videos, I familiarize them with the alphabet, vowels, small 2-5 letter words, and short sentences. They learn this while having fun in class activities. I use creative ways to stimulate young minds and worksheets for assessing their understanding as well as for writing lesson practice.
I’ve used singing to help teach children Hindi as well as English here in the USA. It's great for learning a new language. It increases a child’s understanding, fluency, and speaking abilities. When they learn to sing nursery rhymes, bhajans, and movie songs, they build their understanding of practical vocabulary, increase their comprehension, and have lots of fun!
The learning of Hindi, just like any other language, opens one up to a vast world of opportunities, understandings, and cultural learning. My own children were able to converse with relatives in India with ease, read books or magazines written in Hindi, and really appreciate their surroundings when they visited India. It helped them communicate and share experiences with older relatives in India who were not fluent in English.
In short, learning the Hindi language has helped enrich my own children’s experiences. I would love to help you do the same for your children.
