NWEA MAP Test Practice
The Northwest Evaluation Association’s (NWEA) Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) test is a computer-adaptive assessment tool that is designed to measure a student’s academic proficiency and growth over time. It is widely used in many K-12 schools in the United States and internationally.
The MAP test is unique because it is adaptive, meaning the difficulty of the test adjusts based on the student’s responses. If a student answers a question correctly, the following question becomes more challenging. If a student answers incorrectly, the subsequent question is easier. This adaptive nature helps to pinpoint the student’s proficiency level more accurately.
The MAP test covers several academic areas, including:
Reading: This section of the test assesses reading comprehension skills. It measures a student’s ability to understand and interpret various types of text, from literary pieces to informational passages.
Mathematics: The math section evaluates a student’s understanding of various mathematical principles, including algebra, geometry, and data analysis. It assesses both computational skills and conceptual understanding.
Language Usage: This component tests a student’s grasp of English grammar, syntax, and writing conventions. It can assess everything from punctuation and capitalization to more complex elements like sentence structure and word usage.
Science (available in some versions): Some versions of the MAP test also include a science component that assesses a student’s understanding of various scientific concepts, including physical sciences, life sciences, earth and space sciences, and scientific inquiry and processes.
One of the key advantages of the MAP test is its ability to measure a student’s academic growth over time. The test is typically administered multiple times throughout the school year, allowing educators to track students’ progress and adjust instruction accordingly. The results from the MAP test can inform teachers about a student’s strengths and areas for improvement, and can help to personalize learning to meet each student’s unique needs.

I am a subscriber to your website – is there a sample test available for the NWEA MAP 6th grade? Or something equivalent to it? Thanks
Thank you for being a member! We do have lots of test prep questions, as you have no doubt found. TestingMom.com doesn’t offer a sample test for 6th grade because the actual test is adaptive, meaning that it responds to the students answers, adjusting up or down in difficulty. This test measures what students know already and informs the teacher what they are ready to learn next. Your child is tested at a base level and as that level is mastered, the questions become more challenging. Each subject will have the approximate number of questions on each test: Language Usage (50-53), Reading (40-43), and Mathematics (50-53).
I hope this helps!
