Many gifted children may be ready for school, but not fully prepared for the developmental and socially challenges they might face being gifted in a traditional school setting.

Many parents rely so much on teachers to help their gifted children grow and develop intellectually and socially. However, this shouldn’t be the case since teachers can only do so much to help all gifted children in their class. If there’s someone who should play the most important role in the learning process of children, it’s the parents.

Just because your child happened to be gifted doesn’t mean you can just let him or her learn by himself or herself. This is a common mistake many parents make. On the contrary, you have an obligation to fulfill and that is to provide support and assistance to your gifted child.

There are many things you can do such as supervising homework and projects. You can also enroll your child in special classes to develop his or her creative side. Gifted children may be independent learners but they also need to be assured that you are there for them.
