If your child is facing an upcoming GATE test, preparation is key. These tests are typically not formatted like everyday school tests and quizzes. Children who are intimidated by the testing process typically perform inaccurately poorly, so make sure your child is familiar with the new format before test day. Sample questions are a great way to practice for any GATE test, but there is a more important aspect to address. Gifted and talented children often feel that they don’t fit in. Pressure is also very common, whether it comes from parents, teachers or even their classmates. They may feel very isolated, unsure where they fit in the world, simply because they are so far ahead of their peers.

You can help to alleviate a great deal of this pressure at home. Not only will this help your child to feel more well-adjusted, but it can also improve their test scores. Along with free GATE testing questions, incorporate some positive reinforcement of your own. Remind your child that attending GATE schools or courses will put them in a room full of children just like themselves. Avoid pressuring them to do well, and their scores will most likely go up. A relaxed child always performs better on a test than a stressed child.

The best way to prepare your child for a GATE testing situation is to do as many practice questions as possible. Don’t burn your child out or exert undue pressure, but spend at least a little while each day going over practice questions and talking about the content and format of the test. This will actually help your child in more ways than one, since it will help her feel in control of the situation, rather than going into the test not knowing what to expect.
