Google Invites TestingMom.com to Washington, D.C.

Back in 2011, TestingMom.com received an exciting invitation from Google to travel to Washington, D.C. and participate in discussions about how small businesses use the internet to grow and serve customers across the country.
At the time, TestingMom.com was still a relatively young company, but families from across the United States were already using our resources to help prepare children for gifted testing, private school admissions, cognitive assessments, and academic enrichment opportunities. Google recognized TestingMom.com as an example of how entrepreneurs can use technology and search engines to connect with families who need information and support.
Meeting with Congressional Leaders
TestingMom co-founders Karen Quinn and Michael McCurdy spent the day meeting with members of Congress and their staff on Capitol Hill. Discussions focused on how the internet helps small businesses reach customers, create jobs, and provide valuable educational resources to families nationwide.
As passionate advocates for parents navigating gifted education and school admissions, Karen and Michael couldn’t resist sharing stories from the thousands of families who were using TestingMom’s resources. They also discussed trends they were seeing in gifted testing, including parent concerns about assessments such as the OLSAT and other cognitive ability tests used for gifted program identification.
A Memorable Experience
The trip provided a fascinating look at how technology, education, and public policy intersect. It was also an opportunity to meet leaders from both the technology and government sectors while representing the growing community of parents and educators who relied on TestingMom.com.
What started as a small website dedicated to helping families understand gifted testing has grown into a national resource, serving parents from coast to coast. The invitation from Google was a reminder of how powerful the internet can be in connecting people with the information they need.

Looking Back
More than a decade later, this trip remains a special milestone in TestingMom’s history. It reflected our mission to help parents advocate for their children, understand educational opportunities, and access resources that can make a meaningful difference in their children’s academic journeys.
While TestingMom has grown significantly since 2011, our goal remains the same today: helping families unlock their children’s potential through preparation, enrichment, tutoring, and educational guidance.
