Positive Discipline & Your Advanced Learner: Ending the Great Debate with Your Little Lawyer

Experts offer parents the tools they need to get the school year off on the right foot. Best-selling author and parent educator Nancy Samalin headlines the Fall 2011 opening session of P.A.L., offering parents tips to avoid the nagging, manipulation, bribes, yelling and the ensuing disagreements with their spouses that often arise over the kids.

Donna Vaupel helps parents of advanced learners distinguish between these typical discipline issues and understand the characteristics and issues specific to gifted kids.

You’ll walk away with practical and concrete tips to end the great debate with your little lawyer once and for all.

Guest Speakers include:
Nancy Samalin, the best-selling author, parent educator and founder of Parent Guidance Workshops, offers practical parenting advice documented in her books, Loving Your Child Is Not Enough, Love and Anger: The Parental Dilemma, and Loving Each One Best. In her book, Loving Without Spoiling, she addresses key parenting issues including teaching responsibility, setting limits, diminishing conflict, handling sibling rivalry and encouraging cooperation. For more than two decades, she has conducted workshops for parents of toddlers through teens. Her presentations are filled with entertaining dialogs and anecdotes, coupled with straightforward, practical advice. Recognized as a parenting expert by national media, Nancy has appeared on The Today Show, Good Morning America, CBS This Morning, 20/20, CNN, Dateline NBC and many others. Nancy is an internationally known keynote speaker and former contributing editor to Parents Magazine.

Donna K. Vaupel, is the Immediate Past President of the NJ Association for Gifted Children (NJAGC), the State Affiliate of the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC). Donna was a member of the NJ Commissioner of Education’s Gifted and Talented Advisory Commission. She is a past recipient of NJAGC’s Educator of the Year Award and the Gifted Child Society’s Fellow Award. Donna recently retired as a public school educator after 33 years, with over 25 in the field of gifted education. She helped to develop, teach and coordinate gifted programs in Union County, NJ and also served as the co-chair of the Union County Gifted and Talented Association for several years. Donna, holds a masters from Kean University in Education/Administration with a Specialization in Gifted and Talented, and is the parent of two adult children who were participants in gifted programs.
