The Ratings Are In for New York City Teachers

We’ve been hearing from many NYC parents over the past few weeks about the recent release of the teacher ratings that were released by the NYC dept. of ed. Keep in mind, these ratings only start for teachers in 4th grade and above and don’t include the early grades. Also, there’s no way to determine the gifted and talented teachers at any of these New York City schools unless you know the teacher’s name or if it’s at a city-wide G&T school like a NEST or Anderson school located on the upper west side.

The Wall Street Journal has a nice interface you can easily locate the school and it will list all the teachers that were rated at that school. Again, keep in mind this should only be used as one of the many data points in determine the effectiveness of the teacher. In many cases, these ratings don’t tell the entire story as to what’s going on in the classroom.
