The Stanford-Binet test is administered to children of various ages to determine their learning and mental capacities by testing five factors of cognitive ability: fluid reasoning, knowledge, quantitative reasoning, visual-spatial processing, and working memory.

Over the years, the Stanford Binet test has gone through various developments and can now also be used by psychologists to help those who are deaf, have communication disorders, or limited English. With the testing method, they can evaluate both verbal and non-verbal performance of the test-taker.

In the Stanford-Binet IQ tests, one can expect questions developed around four cognitive areas which include abstract and visual reasoning, quantitative reasoning, verbal reasoning, and short term memory.
