ELA for Standardized Testing Success! (6th-7th Grade)

This ELA class is designed to strengthen 6th—and 7th-grade students' reading comprehension and analysis skills. It focuses on strategies for understanding higher-level poetry and further developing their creative writing abilities. Students will learn techniques for identifying the main idea, author's purpose, supporting evidence, and theme in complex reading passages, including poetry.

Learning Objectives: 

• Analyze the structure, figurative language, and central ideas in various poetry.
• Determine the author's purpose and point of view in both literary and informational texts.
• Cite textual evidence to support analysis and inferences about a reading passage.
• Identify the theme or central message of a literary work, including poetry.
• Apply writing strategies to craft creative pieces, such as short stories, poems, or personal narratives.
• Demonstrate an understanding of standard writing mechanics, including grammar, punctuation, and spelling, in their own writing.
