Description

Research has shown that students who learn and practice coding through programs like Scratch, develop important strategies for critical thinking, problem-solving, interpersonal communication, and project design. In this class, we will use the educational programming software, Scratch, to learn how to program visually with “blocks” that link together to form “scripts,” or a group of coding instructions. This is a beginner class where we will make a "Cat and Mouse Game.

We will create a game where the player is the mouse trying to get cheese while avoiding a mischievous cat! Scratch is user-friendly and requires no previous coding experience in order to excel, so come join us as we explore the exciting world of coding!

Instructor's Bio:

My specialty is that I can get the most out of my students using mainly positive reinforcement, since I started teaching, I have been primarily teaching an extracurricular activity, so the challenge was to motivate and discipline kids mainly by having a fun environment. I can turn boring projects into fun by just being silly and having fun with the students. E.g., I had to teach string manipulations the other day, which is boring, so I came up with a terrible rap about strings, the students loved it and we were all laughing and coming up with different ways to manipulate and change the raps. Another advantage I have when teaching is I am an avid gamer, so it's easy for me to relate material with the kids’ favorite games.
