Description

Students will create a hilarious Mad Libs–style poem for Mother's Day! Students will start by writing and structuring the poem with rhymes, metaphors, and verse. When they're done, they'll take out certain words to create blanks – these will be filled in by whoever is using the program. Every time you play the program, you'll end up with a different story! This is a great way to integrate coding into Language Arts class.

Students will have fun creating stories and building language skills, and apply their knowledge of grammar and storytelling to craft a story and figure out the parts of speech and words they’re removing.

The program used during this class is called Pycharm. Download the program for free here: https://www.jetbrains.com/pycharm/ Select the Community free version to install and follow the prompts on your computer. The instructor will help debug any issues on the first day of class.

Students will:

  • Gain confidence using the Python interface
  • Explore coding concepts
  • Variables
  • Types Lists
  • Present their project during the final session

Preparation:

Step 1: Download Python 3.9.5 here: https://www.python.org/downloads/

Step 2: Download PyCharm Community here: https://www.jetbrains.com/pycharm/

She loved the Scratch classes and wants to take more. We are looking forward to more classes with Fantaysia.
