Top Wishes

  1. Children should score high enough on the test to qualify for the program of choice.
  2. Preparation for testing should be fun, not stressful.
  3. Their children will go to safe schools with good teachers and good arts and sports, where kids will love learning — and go to a good college one day.

Top Worries

  • My child won’t be able to stay focused through preparation. Listen to the full audio for Step 5, “Emphasize Listening, Focus, and Perseverance,” for great tips on focus.
  • Concern about adequate preparation. Listen to the full audio for Step 2, “Challenge Your Child Through Practice,” for tips on how to keep test prep fun.
  • Concern about my child’s performance on test day. Listen to the full audio for Step 3, “Overcome Common Test-Taking Mistakes,” and make sure your child has slept well, eats breakfast, and goes to the bathroom before the test.
  • Concern about shyness in a test situation. In the TestingMom Parent Resources section, look for the “Shy Kids” section to learn about how to help with kids’ shyness.
  • English is not my child’s first language. Look into whether or not the test can be taken in more than one language. If English is required, ramp up the use of English in your home.
  • Concern about my child’s underlying ability. Listen to the full audio for Step 4, “Reinforce Underlying Abilities.”
  • My child’s ultimate placement. Worries that the school will be right for the child. Give the school a try — it’s not forever.
  • Concerns that are out of parents’ control. These are concerns like there not being enough slots available, or that your child won’t be picked in a lottery. There is not really too much you can do about issues like this. Work with TestingMom and we will help you prepare your child for the test and the admissions process.

If you do the best for your child, things will work out for them sooner or later.
