Middle School Biology (6th-8th Grade)

Welcome to our online Biology class for middle schoolers! In this course, we will explore the fascinating world of life. Whether you'd like your middle-schooler to gain a better understanding of Biology concepts being currently taught in class, start building a stronger foundation and be better prepared for up-and-coming high school Biology, or simply help them cultivate their curiosity in science, this course is designed with you in mind.

Designed and taught by an experienced educator and biologist, this course will cover grade-appropriate topics while fostering learning through relevant student queries, illustrations, and practice questions to help students better assimilate the material being covered.

Student Learning Objectives:

• Understanding Cells: three-domain system, differences and similarities between plant and animal cells; cell cycles, types, components, and their functions.
• Body Systems A & P: circulatory, nervous, respiratory, muscular, immune, skeletal, digestive, endocrine, integumentary, urinary, and reproductive.
• Intro to Genetics: inheritance, variation, genotype vs. phenotype, dominant vs. recessive traits, natural selection, from genes to proteins, and Punnett square.
• Ecology: ecosystem types, components, and functions; biomes; symbiotic relationships; food chains vs. food webs.
• Cell Biochemistry: photosynthesis and cellular respiration.
