Best Methods for Chicago Gifted Programs

Chicago Public Schools (CPS) Office of Access and Enrollment does not reveal the names of the tests that they administer for admission to their programs. They do, however, disclose the skills that are assessed for each program.

TestingMom.com recommends the following:

• Work with practice questions for the ITBS and Woodcock-Johnson Tests of Achievement to prepare for the tests given for Classical Schools.
• Work with practice questions for the OLSAT, NNAT-2 and 3 and CogAT to prepare for the test administered for Regional Gifted Centers.

No matter what grade your child is in, begin your practice with lower grade level questions and work your way up (and past grade level if possible), as questions on these tests build on the easier concepts covered in lower grade questions. If your child is applying for Kindergarten, start with the easiest questions. Work past your child’s grade level if your child can do that without frustration. No matter what grade your child is in, there will be some questions beyond his or her grade level on the test.
