CogAT® Test (Cognitive Abilities Test)
What is the CogAT Test?
The CogAT® (Cognitive Abilities Test™) is a multiple-choice test that’s given to students from Kindergarten through high school to determine each child’s eligibility for admission into their local school district’s gifted and talented programs. This test, written by Dr. David F. Lohmann, measures cognitive development among children and is published by Riverside Publishing.
The test measures your child’s abilities in three key areas:
- Nonverbal and
- Quantitative reasoning skills
The nonverbal section includes spatial reasoning questions that will ask your child to use shapes and figures to solve problems.
The CogAT® form 7 test is the current version that’s most commonly administered for admission into gifted and talented programs.
